DNS
What is DNS?
DNS (Domain Name System) was invented in 1984 for the Internet. It is a system that allows the establishment of a domain name corresponding to IP addresses. DNS is considered the phone book of the Internet, where each domain name corresponds to a person’s name in the directory, and IP addresses correspond to that person’s phone numbers.
Why is DNS necessary?
On the Internet, computers and devices need to communicate with each other via IP addresses. However, an IP address is a binary string, which, although written in decimal form in IPv4 or hexadecimal form in IPv6, is still difficult for humans to remember. Therefore, to help people use the Internet easily, the DNS system was created to resolve easy-to-remember domain names into IP addresses.
